Bronwyn Rees

Bronwyn and her husband were approached 23 years ago to become part of a new Lions Club in their community. The organisation’s values and purpose are aligned with its core values of service to others.

A year later they would become chartered members before transferring to Lions Club of Toowoomba West in 2020. 

Having held positions with the Lions, Bronwyn finds the challenge of being President of the Lions Club of Toowoomba West rewarding.

She enjoys seeing every cent earned from the community go back to the community. Bronwyn is proud to be part of this worldwide organisation.  

Marshall Cox

Immediate Past President

Born in Mackay, Marshall spent his working life in the building industry, working in several different roles throughout Queensland before moving to the Garden City in 1992.  

Marshall joined the Lions Club of Toowoomba West in 1995 and since then has held a variety of positions within the Club. He serves as the Club’s Immediate Past President and is the current Chairman of the Toowoomba Christmas Wonderland project. 

Passionate about serving the community, on top of his commitments with the club, Marshall is a qualified Justice of the Peace. 

Marshall has been honoured to receive a Life Membership with the Lions Club International. 

Fiona Roberts

Secretary

I have been involved in community service organisations since joing Rotaract back in the 1990's.

After having a break to raise my family, I started volunteering at Toowoomba's Christmas Wonderland in 2011.  I then joined Toowoomba West Lions Club in 2013.

Since this time I have held positions as Secretary, President, Zone Chair and Convention Chair and also coordinate the Entertainment for Toowoomba's Christmas Wonderland.

I enjoy giving back to the community as well as the fun and fellowship that Lions provides.

David Orton

Service & LCIF Chairman

David and his wife joined the Lions Club of Toowoomba West in 2012 to give back to the community. 

Being involved with the Club has given them the chance to meet other service-minded people, and make new friends while working and fulfilling a purpose together. 

In his role, he has met numerous Lions from other clubs across the country. He encourages other community-minded to come and meet with the Lions Club of Toowoomba West to learn more.

BOB STEGER

President

I joined the Lions Club of Toowoomba West in 2020 to further my interest in the community service activities.  Bob is a Life Member of the Apoex Club of South Toowoomba having served that Club for 12 years before retiring from Apex at the ripe old age of 40 - a requirement of the Apex organisation at that time.  He has also served as a District Governor in Apex during that time.

Bob has a passion for Community service work and is committed to furthering the causes that Lions organisation supports.

I was initially inducted as a Lion in 1999, joining the Lions Club of Brisbane Macgregor Inc.  I have served in 3 Lions Clubs during 24 years of service.

1. Lions Club of Brisbane Macgregor Inc;
2. Coolangatta & Tweed Heads Lions Club;
3. Lions Club of Toowoomba West Inc.

The reason I decided to become a Lion was that I was nearing retirement and wanted to do something meaningful with my time once I finished work.  I started off slowly but soon became enthused by the wide range of activities available and the opportunity to become involved in community service work.  The Lions motto of “We Serve” has had plenty of relevance for me.

My involvement as a Lion has enabled me to continue using my professional skills as an accountant (I have been a CPA for over 50 years).  This has had the dual effect of continuing personal development and contributing to various aspects of running a Club.  I have served as Club President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and been involved as Chairman of major Lions projects.

The most satisfying large project was the Seniors Health & Wellbeing Expo which was conducted over a period of 7 years prior to the impact of COVID.  The central core element of the project was to provide information on health and wellbeing topics relative to the seniors of the community.  It was well supported by the community, particularly the seniors of the community.  The project ultimately was recognized by the Brisbane City Council for its excellence and importance by being awarded the best community service project on the south side of Brisbane.

Another important aspect has been the social opportunities provided as part of Club life which has resulted in the development of long lasting friendships.  I regard being involved as a Lion as carrying out community service activities “having fun”. 

Another pleasing milestone was when my wife Helena became a Lion.  We have continued to grow together in Lions activities.

I have received the following Lions Awards:-

3. Melvyn Jones Progressive Pin Award (twice);
4. James D Richardson Honour Award;
5. James McLardie Award;
6. Ian Fraser Humanitarian Award;
